Wow! The Muppets Take Manhattan.
Seems to be the only one ever shown on TCM.
Seems odd Disney would let it out.
I'm also excited to see Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.
The rest of the schedule looks good as well.
Thanks cmovieviewer!

Daughter of Shanghai (1937), which is being shown, is a rare example of an early Hollywood film where the Asian characters are the protagonists. Anna May Wong and Philip Ann play the leads. The only problem with the film is that it's too short.

How is In the Name of the Father a premiere in both April and May? The Thin Red Line still doesn't get on the Memorial Day weekend. I'm pleased to see the premiere of Synecdoche, New York

Obviously not a premiere in May - fixed it, thank you.

Based on the TCM e-mail that came out today, I should point out that the TCM Star of the Month for May is Sessue Hayakawa.

Other Asian stars are also featured after primetime on Mondays.

Yeah, same. They are really getting the most out of that one “yellow face” documentary. They are probably obligated to air it a certain number of times.

I'm getting tired of these group SOTMs or "trying to right past wrongs" SOTMs by focusing on a minority SOTM who was never really a star. There are so many stars waiting for a month that have NEVER been chosen and TCM seems to have no interest in showcasing them.

It’s Joan Bennett she has been waiting for iirc but there are tons more that would’ve been a better choice than Seuss’s Heyawaka or however you spell it. Anna May Wong was also a poor choice a few years ago because she was more of a character actor or the equivalent to that than an actual star.

It turns out the May schedule has Breathless, not Godard's first film which TCM has shown fairly frequently, but the 1983 remake starring Richard Gere. It also has Switching Channels, by common consent everybody's least favorite version of The Front Page. Might as well test that view.

Well, I’m excited…I haven’t recorded/watched anything on TCM since January.

I LOVE the Carnival highlight on May 3rd, being a sort of “carny” myself but most likely already have seen what's scheduled.

Highly recommend Tunes Of Glory on May 22nd if you haven’t seen it. My memory of the story is faint, I just remember the “Tunes” referred to bagpipes and loving this movie when I saw it.

Also, The Fisher King is a huge favorite. For me, it’s a perfect illustration of mental illness. The performances are lovely. Substitute "Internet Influencer” title for the “shock jock” charactor and the story becomes even more relevant.

I have an issue watching foreign films at home on TV, as if reading subtitles puts me to sleep. I have seen very few Japanese films, are there any on the schedule that stand out in particular for me to try?

JOAN BENNETT! (Don't get me started, sister Connie was showcased 15 years or so ago); Lillian Gish (amazing snub); almost all of the Fox big stars; Sylvia Sidney; Gloria Swanson just for starters. TCM has no interest in showcasing silent stars.

Yes, I had a long running thread on the old TCM Message Boards about Joan! LOL. I have no problem showcasing minorities but cloaking them under the SOTM umbrella isn't honest or fair. Showcase them in another way. I'm not really peeved about S. H. as he was a big star overseas, and did have some starring roles in the USA, but then why not showcase other foreign stars? Jeanne Moreau for instance? But then she isn't a minority.
