What are you listening to?
Re: What are you listening to?
I don't mean to equate commercial success with musical quality, but it's interesting to go back and get an idea
of where they stood on the charts and the information is so easy to find on the internet.
Manifesto was the highest charting RM album in the U.S. at number 23.
Love Is the Drug was the highest charting RM single in the U.S. at number 30.
They had quite a few top ten singles in the U.K., but their only U.K. number one was their cover
of John Lennon's Jealous Guy.

^ One of the things that surprises me most is their success overseas and no significant charting in the USA!

I guess it was just one of those things. For whatever reason, Americans never cottoned to Roxy Music's music.Allhallowsday wrote: ↑March 4th, 2023, 2:04 pm ^ One of the things that surprises me most is their success overseas and no significant charting in the USA!
T. Rex and Slade followed the same pattern--big success in the U.K. and very limited success here. Sometimes
bands blame their record companies for not providing much publicity and support. I don't know if that had anything
to do with Roxy Music's lack of success in the U.S. I noticed that Avalon was very successful in Europe, going
to number one in quite a lot of countries.

BOBBY GENTRY has a #1 hit in the UK with "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" which did not chart stateside.Andree wrote: ↑March 4th, 2023, 6:16 pmI guess it was just one of those things. Re: What are you listening to?
I would imagine that happens fairly often--a song being a big hit in the U.K. and going nowhere in the U.S. and vice versa.Allhallowsday wrote: ↑March 5th, 2023, 1:08 pm
