That title is the same as Nightmare Castle (1965) with Barbara Steele.

Could this be it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060097/

Glad to find it. There is a really nice restoration available:

That print looks great. The same director made one of my favorite gialli films Eye in the Labyrinth (1972):

Thanks for the tip Joel. Yesterday I began watching a poor print on YTBE and it really detracts from the enjoyment of the film. Besides, the dubbing in English is terrible.

Here's something interesting--a series of clips about the automat from several movies from the '30s through the '60s (I thought the automat was gone by then). Two of the movies below were made long after the automat was just a memory. Enjoy and doesn't it look like it would fun to go there for lunch?:

Sadie McKee (1934):

Easy Living (1937):

That Touch of Mink (1962):

Just This Once (1952):

A Run For Your Money (1949):

The Catered Affair (1957):

Dark City (1998):

Radio Days (1987):

Thirty Day Princess (1934):

Here's an interesting background piece on the Horn and Hardart chain:

oh i loved these! how ever did you find them???

i vividly remember the one in that touch of mink...it's one of my favorite scenes! but look how just elegant some were...like the one in sadie mckee...did you notice the fixtures? they were prettier than some serving pieces i've seen in five star hotels, lol. the days of craftsmanship. sigh. i find the concept charming, especially in the old movies. didn't they close the last one that was in NYC just a few years ago? i seem to recall a news story about it.

you'd think something like that could be started again, just as a "gimmick" and for the retro vibe.

thanks so much for posting them!

I don't know how I find anything, honest! I usually start hunting for something else and stumble on stuff. Did you see in that last clip that the Museum of the City of New York has an exhibit about the automat? Maybe you could catch it, Miss G. I noticed in that last history clip that they had some of the beautiful art deco fixtures from the automats at the museum and that the last of the Horn and Hardart ones closed in the early '90s. Someone should introduce these again. They look like great fun.

From what I hear, that's how most people get married!

These are such fun! Doris Day is a favorite of mine, so of course I remember the Automat scene in That Touch of Mink, and I LOVE Radio Days. The others were new to me.

Thanks Moira!

I'm glad that others are enjoying those Automat glimpses. I agree with Red about Easy Living. It is great fun and on DVD too.

This heat-soaked Saturday I am trying to stay cool by taking breaks for videos--Look what I found:

All 59:55 minutes of that early talkie, The Letter, (1929) with Jeanne Eagels directed by Monta Bell and with Reginald Owen as her hubby and Herbert Marshall as the soon-to-be dead man! I still think that she must have been fascinating on stage. Whaddyou think?

I liked her performance. While I was watching at first I wasn't sure if she was really good or really bad...I think our guest writer last week said the same thing. It takes getting used to. I do think she shows the spark of what must have been a roaring fire on stage.
