Ben Johnson
Re: Ben Johnson
As I mentioned in the John Ford thread, for the Ford blogathon Lee Price is publishing a series of essays on Wagon Master. Yesterday's was a general look at the movie, with some extra attention paid to Ben's riding skills. Today's is about Ben himself and his performance as Travis Blue.

So naturally today's post at the Ben page is a publicity portrait from Wagon Master. ;)

The Ford blogathon continueth. Lee Price's essay today tying memories of his grandmother in with the animal stars of Wagon Master is lovely. ;) http://21essays.blogspot.com/2014/07/gr ... aster.html
I also enjoyed Dan's piece on She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. http://www.ptsnob.com/2014/07/john-ford ... ellow.html
And... today's picture addition is another publicity portrait from Wagon Master.

Re: Ben Johnson
Lee Price at 21 Essays concludes his Ford blogathon series of Wagon Master essays with a look at Denver, who he sees as the character John Ford most identified with in the film. Very intriguing analysis! Here's the link:

Also posted to my Ben page this still of Ben and Joanne Dru...
Well, that's weird, the board doesn't seem to be doing images today, it's just posting code.

Thanks, Paula, for sharing this link. It certainly makes Denver even more intriguing, doesn't it?

What I'd like to know is why Ford liked to name female characters after cities. Dallas, Denver, Philadelphia. Am I missing anyone? :)
Something French for Bastille Day or as they call it in France, le quatorze juillet (14th of July). :) Three French Train Robbers lobby cards.

Re: Ben Johnson
I redid the screencaps of Ben's scenes from Grayeagle. The ones I did back in 2010 were from an online Hulu version and fit into one album. This time I did them from the DVD and did a lot more, so now they take up three albums. I included some from the scenes without Ben at the end so there could be some good shots of Alex Cord as Grayeagle and Paul Fix as Running Wolf. You can find them here: https://benjohnsonfanpage.shutterfly.com/movies
Here are some screencaps from the DVD.

Today's the 10th annual National Day of the Cowboy, so here's a reprint photo of Ben doing what he loved to do -- being a cowboy. This is from Horse and Horseman, October 1978. You can download the article here: https://benjohnsonfanpage.shutterfly.com/print/757

The Wild Bunch is screening tomorrow at Atlanta's Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. Yay!
Today's picture therefore is from The Wild Bunch. Tector buys the farm.

Rio Grande publicity still. Sorry I haven't been around much -- my house has been a construction zone for the last two weeks with my postage stamp sized backyard getting a complete makeover. And it's still not finished! There are a few things that still need to be done to make it 100 percent perfect. :)
I can't believe how time flies -- next Monday will be the fourth anniversary of the founding of the Ben page! ;) Somehow I've managed not to run out of publicity stills, screencaps, magazine articles or other things for the page. ;)

Re: Ben Johnson
TM (a Ben page fan) found an interview with a long-time resident of Clovis, NM that included a great picture of him in a rodeo event with Ben back in the 1950s. One thing that's so interesting about the picture is that it's for bulldogging, which usually wasn't Ben's event.
Here's a link to the interview: http://www.cnjonline.com/2014/05/10/life-of-service/

Re: Ben Johnson
Happy Birthday to us! Today is the fourth anniversary of the start of the Ben Johnson Fanpage. ;) Yay! ;) Anyway... to celebrate I have posted a big bunch of historical photos of Ben's family. The photos originally appeared at the Facebook page Osage County Past and Present, and the page's administrator said "sure!" when I asked her if I could repost them on the Ben page. Apparently these photos were taken from a photo book put together for Ben's mother, Ollie. Anyway, they're just amazing. You can follow the links from my front page at http://benjohnsonfanpage.shutterfly.com or just go straight here: https://benjohnsonfanpage.shutterfly.co ... allery/170
