I associate Mel Ferrer with LILI, a movie that my mother hates.

I kind of like the puppets in LILI but have never truly understood Leslie Caron's appeal (along of course with Mel).

Re: Coming up on TCM...
At least it was JEWEL ROBBERY and not, say, THE PHILADELPHIA STORY....
But yes, they better shape up!

I'd have loved to see Spielberg's reaction if he happened to tune in!ziggy6708a wrote: ↑May 18th, 2024, 10:10 pm SO WHY ARE THEY NOW PLAYING "JEWEL ROBBERY" INSTEAD OF "FORTY GUNS" !????????

This lovely lady is coming up on TCM on Tuesday, May 28 at 11:45 am:
In addition to Jacqueline Pearce, the lady who plays the eponymous role, Marne Maitland is brilliant as the Malay:

Saw it all the time on TV when I was a kid. I grew up hating Eddie Albert because of this.
Re: Coming up on TCM...
I grew up hating Robert Ryan because of Billy Budd.

I guess I'm different. I grew up hating Fred MacMurray because of the Disney films and didn't become a fan until I saw Double Indemnity.
(and of course all of us are using "hating" very loosely).

Hate is a strong word. Loathe works better for me.jamesjazzguitar wrote: ↑May 26th, 2024, 10:49 am I guess I'm different. I grew up hating Fred MacMurray because of the Disney films and didn't become a fan until I saw Double Indemnity.

I've unfortunately seen Double Indemnity in progress and the ending. Someday I need to see the whole thing.
Didn't have access to movies growing up. It was a bit of a luxury for a single working Mom to treat her kids.
I loved growing up in "the sticks" and feel the tradeoff of living 17 miles from town was worth it.
Only knew Fred MacMurray from My Three Sons.
If I must hate something it would be a type of food, not a person.
Woof! You've Got Mail!
