Speaking of UK Guitar Gods...

In 1970, saxophonist Joe Farrell gathered a group of musicians
that seemed to be everywhere at that time: Chick Corea (piano),
Jack DeJohnette (drums), Dave Holland (bass) and John
McLaughlin
(guitar). One of the tunes they recorded was McLaughlin's
gorgeous "Follow Your Heart".

Ready for a Saturday Stroll?

CHUCK WILLIS, “King of the Stroll,” died when he was 30,
but amassed an enviable recording legacy while on the OKeh (1951-56)
and Atlantic (1956-58) labels. Stroll on!

With an orchestra conducted by the legendary Jesse Stone,
“It’s Too Late” (1956)

A #1 R’n’B hit with Sam “The Man” Taylor and Chicago’s
Gene Barge on tenor saxes, based on Ma Rainey’s “See See
Rider Blues” (1925), inspiration for The Stroll (a dance that even ChiO
could do), and a ‘60s Rock’n’Roll staple, “C.C. Rider” (1957)

Mike Stoller on piano and Kenny Burrell and Al
Caiola
on guitars, it’s the story of “Betty And Dupree” (1958)

With King Curtis on tenor sax, Teddy Charles on vibes,
and George Barnes and Al Caiola on guitars, these were his
ironically titled last recordings. R.I.P. “What Am I Living For” b/w
“Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes” (1958)

Bruce “Utah” Phillips, labor organizer, folk singer, storyteller, poet and
self-described “Golden Voice of the Great Southwest” passed away on
Friday, May 23 at age 73. He described the struggles of labor unions and
the power of direct action. He often promoted the Industrial Workers of the
World in his music, actions, and words.

Evie Sands was one of those absolutely incredible American blue-
eyed soul songbirds from the 60s whose genius is now almost all
but forgotten--largely because many of her best tunes were covered
(more commercially) by others. Please welcome the lovely Miss Sands
to the Record Party with two of her very best---along with their slightly
more well-known cover versions! A special tip o’ the hat to Richard and
Virginia up in Terra Linda, CA for calling in this request!
EVIE SANDS and her signature song “Take Me For A Little While”

And the cover version by VANILLA FUDGE

Here’s EVIE again with the original 1965 version of “I Can’t Let Go”

But it was THE HOLLIES who had the hit with it in ’66.

Even LINDA RONSTADT cranked out a nifty version of this…

With “Take Me for a Little While”, DJ Dewey, you’ve tripped these
memory banks and released another great similarly-titled tune that
was interpreted by various artists…“Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me)”

Have to compliment you guys for this wonderful music thread. Like you, my tastes in music are deep and wide. Mozart to Motorhead. Pavarotti to the Sex Pistols. Jerry Goldsmith to Jerry and the Pacemakers. James Brown to Bing Crosby. George Jones to Grace Jones. It’s all good stuff. I love all of it.

I’ve been digging my way through this thread, a couple of pages a day, and have not been disappointed. I love to discover great music I’ve never heard before (either old or new). I’ve heard a lot of quality music on this thread.

Well done, all of you. Keep up the good work.

Some of your earlier posts have been suspended by YouTube due to ‘Terms of use’ violations or copyright infringements etc. And I expect some of my posts to go the same way. C’est la vie, enjoy them while you can.

Something different. Three pieces that have moved me to tears.

Gorecki’s heartbreaking 3rd symphony.
