This DJ must admit to his failure, as self-appointed keeper of the RYAN flame in his hometown, to remember the Record Party's Honorary Godfather's birthday. Luckily, a little DJ Bird in the Bay area let it slip.

DJ MOOK has been so inexplicably consumed
with Bix Beiderbecke lately she has been
neglecting, among other things (sleeping, getting
to work on time, personal grooming, etc.) her
RECORD PARTY DUTIES ...

Fortunately I have managed to drag myself
away from Bix long enough to
remember it's Robert Ryan's 99th birthday today ...
... which is just f------------ bizarre! How can this BE?

Thanks for mentioning it, ChiO!

Sorry to put a damper on the party, but a trouble shared is a trouble halved (or something like that).

Well, the crappy economy is finally begining to hit close to home. The company for whom I work has just laid off fifty people. The rest of us are having our hours cut from 40 to 32 hours a week. Needless to say, there are seveal hundred people here who are miserable, depressed and wondering if they are going to celebrate Christmas on the unemployment line.

Thank you for your kind thoughts gentlemen.

Wrapped up in my own troubles, I had forgotten it was Veterans day.

Regardless of your views of the various conflicts around the globe that America is involved in, and the ‘politics by other means’ of governments, we can take pride, and give thanks to the young men and women who have put themselves in harms way to protect us. Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

My youngest son, who recently turned 18 got his Selective Service registration form in the mail. A sobering event full of mixed emotions for any parent.

Another big loss to contend with: Miriam Makeba passed away
on Monday. Here she is doing “Pata Pata" on Brazilian TV in
1968…

I want to intrude here with two '60s favorites:

The wonderful Claudine Longet singing "Meditation", whose "Nothing To Lose" from Peter Sellers' "The Party" (1968) I have never been able to find on CD:

And Chaplin's wondrous song from "The Countess from Hong -Kong" (1966), "C'est Ma Chanson" (This is My Song) sung by Petula Clark:

And I could not help posting three more:

Claudine singing "L'Amour est Bleu":

Vicky Leandros original version:

...And Mylène Farmer's latest single "Appelle Mon Numéro":
