Re: Kathryn Grayson Tribute

For those wondering why TCM didn't give her a tribute after she died, Robert O. explain in his comments before THE DESERT SONG that they had been locked in with "31 Days of Oscar", but would give a whole day during "Summer Under The Stars".

Volcano problems

I know we have some people from the UK and other European locations on the boards so I'm hoping all is well with them and they're not stranded anywhere. My wife and I really lucked out. We were thinking of taking a tour of Scotland this spring, but for various reasons decided to wait until next year...

Re: The Universal Mummy Series

[quote="Mr. Arkadin"][quote="knitwit45"] Yes indeed! Probably one of the biggest reasons why the first film had such a huge effect on me was because of what it did not show. Showing way too much has always been the reason I tend not to like more recent horrors films. Nothing is l...

Re: Letter from an Unknown Woman

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I did a spot check of my recording and it's just BEAUTIFUL! Either it was mastered from the original negs or at the very least a pristine 35mm print. I can't imagine a DVD looking any better.

Re: May Schedule for TCM is Up

I'm excited to see: ...but most of all, I am thrilled to see The Rising of the Moon on the schedule Me too. The last time I saw THE RISING OF THE MOON, or what is often referred to it as John Ford's "other" Irish film was on TV in the 1970's and I don't think it's been shown since. After ...

Re: THE CITADEL

Robert Donat is great in my book. My two favorites are GOODBYE MR. CHIPS and THE CITADEL. Every month a few friends who are film buffs get together in somebody's home theater (I lust for that place, but that's another story) and we take turns picking the films. The last time it was my turn I picked ...

Re: Encore Western Channel

It's a good channel (the only genre-themed channel that's stuck to it's original format) and I really like the old TV series. However two things that bug me about it. Having been spoiled rotten, by TCM, I hate them showing all their films in pan and scan versions. It also drives me nuts when they pu...

Re: Comfort foods

....rice puddings.... I always make loads of soup and eat it for days. You got me drooling. I'd do almost anything for a good rice pudding and I'd be very happy to live on nothing but homemade soup. I got very spoiled at a young age. My grandmother (on my mother's side) lived with us. She was a del...

Re: Comfort foods

How about a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of Campbell's Tomato soup for chasing away the cold? Oh yes! That was a favorite of mine when I was a kid and still is. I'm glad you mentioned Campbell's because it's got to be that brand. I've tried others, like the market's private label brand, and it...

Re: What the Anchor didn't say

I've always joked that the way to stop all this stuff was to make everyone fly naked. Maybe I wasn't too far off. Of course, it wouldn't be totally naked, I'm sure the airlines would provide robes for first class and the rest of us back in steerage (oops, I mean coach) would be allowed to pay $50 fo...

Re: It's a Wonderful Life

Around here most stores were selling IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE for $14.99. That seemed to be the going price for Christmas films this year. The best time to find deals on them is in the summer when nobody is interested in buying them.

Just remember, as TCM has reminded us, all schedules, especially those several months out, are "works in progress" and subject to change.

Re: Christmas, Thanksgiving and other festivals

While many people don't have their houses decorated yet, certainly the stores do and most of the street decorations are up. With the Thanksgiving holiday on the last Thursday of November, the Christmas season seems to begin the next day. Although this year many stores started weeks ahead. It seems l...

Re: Christmas, Thanksgiving and other festivals

Very nice hearing of your Christmas celebrations. I think while we each may have our own variations, overall they are very similar. You didn't mention Boxing Day. Are there special celebrations too or has it just become a day to recover from Christmas? We don't celebrate it here, but December 26th h...
